Terms of Use

The short version. ZipOrZoom is free, open-source software provided as-is during the public beta. Use it for anything you want — personal, commercial, whatever — subject to the MIT License that governs the source code. We make no guarantees, and you're responsible for your own files and backups.

1. Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using ZipOrZoom (the "Software") or this website, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree, don't use the Software.

2. License to use the Software

The ZipOrZoom source code is released under the MIT License. The compiled binaries we distribute through GitHub Releases are licensed on the same terms. You can find the full license text on our License page.

3. Beta status

ZipOrZoom is currently in public beta. This means:

Features may change, appear, or disappear between releases.
Bugs may exist, including ones that could affect your files.
We strongly recommend keeping independent backups of anything important you process with the app.

4. Your responsibilities

You agree that you will not use the Software to:

Violate any applicable law, including copyright, privacy, and export-control laws;
Access, compress, or extract files you do not have permission to access;
Attempt to harm, defraud, or deceive other users of the Software.

You are responsible for maintaining appropriate backups of your files, for the security of your device, and for the passwords you set on archives.

5. No warranty

The Software and website are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, express or implied. This includes, but is not limited to, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted availability.

We do not warrant that the Software will be free of defects, that it will meet your requirements, or that any data processed by the Software will be preserved without loss or corruption.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will the authors or copyright holders be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with the Software or this website.

Our total aggregate liability to you for any direct damages arising out of the Software or this website shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Software (which, during the free beta, is zero).

7. Third-party services

The Software may link to or download from third-party services (for example, GitHub Releases for updates). Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies.

8. Trademarks

"ZipOrZoom" and the ZipOrZoom logo are identifiers of our project. You may refer to the Software by name in reviews, articles, and tutorials. You may not use the name or logo in a way that implies endorsement, partnership, or sponsorship that we have not granted.

9. Changes

We may update these Terms as the Software evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any change. Continued use of the Software after a change indicates your acceptance of the updated Terms.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the project maintainers reside, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from the Software or these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
